Display External Content via URL in the Portal

In this article, you will learn how to embed external content in your portal using a widget and an iFrame.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

With the “External Content” widget in Memberspot, you can display content from other websites directly inside your portal. This allows your members to access external tools or pages without leaving the members area.

The content is embedded via iFrame, which means an external webpage is displayed within a page of your portal.

Important: The external website must allow iFrame embedding. If it does not, the content cannot be displayed in the portal.

Add External Content to the Portal

Follow these steps to display external content in your portal:

  1. Open the Portal Editor.

  2. Click “Add widget” in the top right corner.

  3. Select the “External Content” widget.

Add a URL

After adding the widget, you can insert the webpage you want to display.

  1. Under Link, select “External Link.”

  2. Enter the URL of the webpage you want to display.

  3. Adjust the iFrame height if needed.

  4. Click Save.

Seamless Integration in the Portal

In the Design section of the widget, you can adjust the appearance so the external content integrates smoothly into your portal.

For example, you can:

  • remove the card border

  • disable the padding (spacing)

This helps the embedded content appear as a natural part of your members area.

Adjust the iFrame Height

Under iFrame settings, you can define how tall the embedded content should appear in the portal.

The height is specified in pixels (px).

Examples:

  • 200px

  • 600px

  • 800px

If the content appears cut off, simply increase the iFrame height.

Typical Use Cases

The widget is commonly used for embedding:

  • appointment booking pages

  • external forms

  • surveys

  • additional learning platforms

  • external tools or dashboards

Important Note

Not all websites allow embedding via iFrame.
If a page does not load, the external website is likely blocking this feature.

In this case, the content can only be opened via a regular external link.
